The Fanboy Cometh...

Although I have been collecting records for 14 years, autographs never interested me. I never had the desire to make a fool of myself standing in line with a stack of record sleeves like a 11 year old girl waiting for one of the New Kids on the Block to sign a picture for her, so she can hang it on her wall and kiss it before she goes to bed each night. Well, I have recently become that prepubescent girl. I have quickly learned to embrace this "fanboy" status and track down surprised, and most likely creeped out, band members who have just been put in the uncomfortable position of being face to face with an overweight 27 year old, a Sharpie, and an LP mailer full of record sleeves. Here are some recent autographs that I've attained (Except for the Meat Puppets...Thanks Miranda!!!).

1. Glenn Tillbrook

2. David Johansen

3. John Brannon and Opie Moore

4. Cris and Curt Kirkwood (Meat Puppets -Back cover of "Too High To Die" LP)

5. Tommy Ramone

Tommy Ramone's bluegrass duo, Uncle Monk @ The Record Collector in Bordentown, NJ on 04-Dec-2009. There were only about 40 people at this show, of only 2 (including me) under 45 years old! It was fantastic meeting the last surviving member of the best band to ever play music!!! Here he is playing "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend". Well, most of it.

Angry Samoans

I first stumbled upon this band by accident. I was about 11 years old when I was walking past my local used book store (the Book Pit - R.I.P.) and noticed a record with a weird monster holding a severed head on the cover sitting in the dumpster. It was in terrible shape: warped, split seams, rips, college radio call letters scribbled all over it. I had no idea what it was, but i knew that it looked bad ass! I went home, put it on my parents turntable and after the constant skipping throughout the 1st song due to the warping ended, the second song kicked in; I was floored. A song about poking your eyes out with a fork? Holy shit, this is insane!!! I knew that i had discovered something amazing. To this day, that destroyed, warped copy of the Angry Samoans - Back From Samoa is my most prized possession.

Here is part one of my Samoans collection. Most of these were found in record stores and through trades with friends, fans, and from Metal Mike himself! A few were tracked down on eBay, but the majority were obtained through digging through boxes and bartering with other cretins.

(all record breakdowns will be clockwise from top left)
1. Queer Pills e.p. (stamped)
2. Return of the Queer Pills e.p.
3. Queer Pills e.p. (unstamped - rumor has it that only the 1st hundred or so got out unstamped. I have never seen another one in person or on the Internet!)

5. Don't Change My Mind (signed and graffitied by Metal Mike)

Random Posters/Lobby Cards

Re-Animator (Australian Daybill)

One of my favorite H.P. Lovecraft stories and one of my favorite 1980s horror films.

Fando Y Lis (Mexican Lobby Card)

This film caused a riot at its film festival debut having it's director, Alejandro Jodorowsky, flee for his life and also had him accused of being a vampire! Good movie. Extremely strange.

Hellraiser (Mexican Lobby Card)

I love this movie! I wish it were a tiny bit truer to the book (Hellbound Heart), but it still rules! A few good and a few terrible sequels came out of this. Rumors of a remake are floating around. Pretty soon there are going to no more movies to butcher. Jesus Wept.

The Toxic Avenger (Mexican Lobby Card)

Cult classic Troma film that spawned a bunch of mediocre sequels. This movie make me proud to be from NJ.

Maniac (One Sheet Teaser)

This poster is not nearly as cool as the standard one that we all know and love, but still has its own haunting charm. I thought I packed this when I went to the Fangoria Con this summer to get it signed by William Lustig, but I realized that I forgot it when I was in line. Bummer. This movie will always be a classic! I WARNED YOU NOT TO GO OUT TONIGHT!

Doomed To Die aka: Eaten Alive (One Sheet)

My least favorite of Umberto Lenzi's cannibal films. While it delivers all the shock that you'd expect, it's just not as entertaining as Cannibal Ferox. As a teenager I loved these movies, but now I have definitely outgrown the cannibal genre. Send hate mail to punksishippies@msn.com.

Lucio Fulci and The Ghastly One: Andy Milligan.

Conquest (Mexican Lobby Card)
Fulci's poor attempt at a "Conan the Barbarian" style action/adventure genre film. It has its moments, but in the end...you should have watched The Beyond instead.

Don't Torture a Duckling (Mexican Lobby Card)
This seems to be Fulci's forgotten masterpiece. While he is mainly known for his gore and ultra violence, he really delivers with this early-career giallo classic. This is definitely in my top 3 Fulci films (along with The Beyond and House by the Cemetery).

The Ghastly Ones (Mexican Lobby Card)
One of Milligan's finest! Pick up The Ghastly One: The Sex-Gore Netherworld of Filmmaker Andy Milligan, if it doesn't disgust you, you may have more issues than Mr. Milligan himself! You can get this book on Amazon.com for less than $5.

The Naked Witch (One Sheet)
This is one of the many (unfortunately) lost Andy Milligan films. I know absolutely nothing about this film except that parts of it were filmed on a beach not far from me in Manasquan, NJ.
